Medium ruby red with first tones of garnet red at the rims. In the nose a nice mix of dried dark berries enriched by cold tobacco and a touch of cedar. On the palate surprisingly fruity with some sweetness at the end of the medium-long finish.
I selected this wine as partner for a nice duck breast dish. We prepared the duck breast in the oven together with apples, dried apricots and onions. After the roast time the fruits and the onions were puréed together with the meat juices as basis for the sauce. The duck breasts were served on this sauce together with "Schupfnudeln" (finger-shaped potato dumplings) and red cabbage.
An outstanding pairing. The fruity notes of the Havens Merlot harmonized wonderfully with the sweet aromas of the rich sauce. Together with this dish the wine provides its whole strength.
Of course the wine is already over the time but still in good condition. It will hold this quality for another five years without any problems.
